Without a pointer I think you are screwed. May be it is broke off. May be a 915 was set up in a different way than a 1086. Might want to talk to the local Case IH dealer.

Wiat a minute Marland, as I think about this. You took the engine out of a 915 and put it on a cart. Then you took the pump off to have it worked on. Now, did you line up the timing mark on the pump before you removed it? If so, and you did not turn the engine, when you re-install it the pump should either be right or 180 off. If you did not line it up you have a challenge. I hope you lined it up.

No more so than what I see when I look in the mirror. Guess it's time to count teeth.

I guess it's settled, I'm pulling the clutch housing . I ranthe flywheel around and in the rusty spot I could see a faint line with the little viewing hole and pointer in the way there's no way to polish it up for verification of what it actually is

The marks on the flywheel were always as clear as mud to me.

Marland: I've got one of those 414's in a 815 behind the bin site here. It is complete and NOT f%$ked with, you are welcome to come look at it.
But seriously I would like to know and see picts of how you are doing this "add a motor" thing to a REM vac. Sounds like a good use for the motor on that 815. Have you considered a belt drive instead of a gearbox? less moving parts.

Hobby farmer, have you seen a pic of the new Rem diesel vacs ? www.remmanufacturing.com/grain-handling.htmlJust a clutch with a 2;1 reduction gearbox , my older one appears more exotic with it's CV drive that's a foot long and was once covered with a box , the new one gives it away completely as a simple set up . The bad part about using the 414 is the location of the starter so, I cannot buy the clutch housing and gearbox from a conventional source . I may try to adapt a Tayloria gearbox via drive shaft or , I bought a scrapper Walinga vac with a 5 or 6 belt pulley set up on it and may go that route , depends on how it all shakes out but it'll probably be belt drive for the reason you stated plus the cost factor . I also had a passing thought about bringing the engine back under the auger since the tailshaft is longish and adding a pulley to the back and driving it from there , it would make the rig more compact length wise and the width would be nearly the same . With the fuel tank and hose storage I'd still be under 10 ft in length . It may end up on a Nissan style cab over truck instead of a trailer also , but the height bothers me there although I could drop the vac between the frame rails . Oh and I have 2 more of the 414's in the shed , neither is complete but they will make one with an extra block and head might find a 966 or newer and bigger needing a new powerplant for the extra one .
