I'd like to purchase a lightbar, nothing fancy at this point, just something to start with. Main use would be spraying and spreading fertilizer. I'm somewhat familiar with an EZ-Guide Plus. I've seen an Outback S . Anyone have any pros/cons with either? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I have used and EZ-Guide plus for about 6 years now. I looked at all three that were available at the time which included Centerline and Outback systems. I really can not remember why my choice was the Trimble unit other than the Centerline was very very basic and not worthy of the price tag. It seems to me as I demoed the Outback it was not as easy to use for a beginner. It did have more options and a slightly higher price on the basic unit than Trimble, but I had no use for the additional options then or now. I looked at upgrading to an EZ-Guide 500, but just have trouble parting with the money while my existing ones still work.

Gotta say buy where you can get good customer service because no matter how simple it appears, you'll always have questions. A buddy of mine is an up and coming Trimble dealer and he made the sale by being reachable and has a couple guys working for him who can really dumb it down for us.

outbacks are really easy to use..took me 10 minutes to figure it out. That being said..the cheaper ones do not do mapping. If you need mapping you need to go to ezguide or raven. I have an outback s2 and its not bad, but with my odd shaped fields id get mapping if i had to do it over again, Its just easier to know you didnt miss anything.

By mapping you mean having an actual screen showing a coverage map correct? I can see where that would make sense which I didn't think about. I having nothing even as an optical illusion could resemble a square field and some of it is planted on the countour also.

yeah...the visual coverage map would be a definite plus. The outback will guide you next to the closest pass...so when you come to where the passes come together it can get kind of confusing. Not impossible to do, but it does require a little more thought about how to do things.

I have had a raven cruizer for 4 yrs and just bought another one off AGTalk. I really like it and it is the first lightbar/field mapping that I have owned. It is very hard to get through to Raven during busy season though. Local support is good though. Pretty user friendly for a Hillbilly.
