I have a new tarp on the shop floor and two poles. Any suggestions on the best way to get this on my trailer? Do I put the poles in on the ground and then put it on truck, or wrestle tarp up and put the poles in while on trailer?

Shur-lok on a hopper trailer or end dump...?
I've never put one on from scratch, but I'd imagine if I were to try it I'd put both poles in the tarp on the ground, then try my best to roll it up...hike it up onto the right side of the trailer then roll it across. I guess it depends on how much help you have...

From the tales I've heard from our trucking side, a skidloader and a fork truck are great helps in getting this accomplished. It still takes a couple good stout men to make it all work, but for safety's sake, use something mechanical to do the hoisting and holding till you can man-handle the rest of the process.

Put the poles in first (now screws yet), get it up to the top of the trailer..Usually takes 3 guys (one on the ends and middle). Unroll it across the top, get it were you want it and fasten the secure side. Then put your screws and tabs on the roll up side over the seatbelt material.
