My second son is thinking about going to school to learn about crop production and either bring that back to the farm or maybe be a crop consultant, something along those lines. Wondered what you guys and gals thought he should do and what schools would be best. He was looking at the Nebraska School of Testical Agriculture. I told him he was nuts. No...really I think they're a good school but there are probably better places to go. Looked like they were more into animal stuff than crop production.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Prolly want to head to K-state. They will know the most about the crops grown in KS, and will be able to give better knowledge for condition. MN has wheat, but practices are different in MN than KS for example. Make sure he also takes some classes in accounting and business and those types of things too. You said he may come home to farm or be a crop consultant. And you have said that there are a lot of independents out there vs. co-ops. An independent has to be able to run a business, a co-op consultant just needs to sell.

ses that is great that Jr. Jr. is thinking about more Ed. Boy farming sure has changed alot since I start'd LMAO Boy that was a big thing when we bought a new F 20 with rubber tires !!
But back to the subject , K State would be a great school , But ! , this only me talking out loud , There is a lot of things happen'n in ag , maybe it would be a good idea if Jr. Jr. hasn't made up his mind maybe he should go to some different school's and see if there is something out there he might really like to do . For years i have been going up to Purdue for chemical classes on there research farm , that is a cool place what they do up there . As a kid IF I would have had my head out of my ass , I probably would went to school on the research side of farming and said screw all this crap I put up with know . Ohio St. also has a very good ag school , But not as good as Purdue LMAO
Tell Jr. Jr. good luck ! Ken

K State, especially for the business classes. And, close enough to come home and help out on the farm when needed.

ses: Texas A&M is without a doubt the premier ag school in the country whether you're talking agronomy, animal science, dairy, or vet. But, economically the first two years at Colby and the last two at KSU would be the most realistic and economical. If he just wants to be a crop consultant, all he has to do is work with independent crop consultants and make high use of KSU Extension online. Tell him to be a vet so he can make some real money so he can afford to lose money farming. lol. If you want contact info on good independent crop consultants who might hire and train him over here, e-mail me.

I'll put in a plug for Texas A & M...that's where my wife went to school. Tho' she wasn't an ag major, she was an Aggie and will be 'till the day she dies. That is a school with some pretty powerful traditions---and they turn out a mighty fine product, if I do say so myself.

UW-River Falls (aka: Moo U) is certainly a great choice. Heard that there are still some outstanding warrants for dman, some of them concerning paternity suits. Really hard to believe that part.
But seriously, there's a much better ag education to be had at River Falls than UW Madison.

In state tuition is probably a consideration. Problem is the girlfriend is going to a small out of the way college in Neb.
