I bought an '11 Silverado yesterday and it has a button to turn traction control off. I think but am not sure that it gets shut off too if in tow/haul mode.

Traction control and Stabili-track can rot in hell! I buy a truck to use as a truck and expect it to handle like a truck, not to get stuck going through 3 inches of slick gravel and mud! And you can't get away from it, all the brands have it now.
That being said, I am still a GM fan. We have had chevy trucks for years and never had any major issues. We have had some Fords as well and they have been good with only a few issues. I won't even mention Dodge. Only drove that truck for 6 months, but it was the longest 6 months of my life! Overall GM has the better rep and setup in their trucks, imo.

Happy with my 07. I don't have traction control thank God! I would like to have the transmission set to lockup better. It is even worse if I run E-85. Wifes car has the trqction control. It was stuck in the drive the 2nd day we owned it. Just parked it on the ice. It was flat and still wouldn't move!

Im not up on new vehicles, What are they calling traction control? Is it something like automatic 4wd , only kicks in when needed?

The problem comes in that it is all wheel drive like the old full time four wheelers used to be. It applies the brakes to the wheels that want to spin. What happens with hers is it applies the brakes hard enough you have to drag those wheels. That day on the ice when I figured to shut the traction control off I just drove it away.

It cuts power and/or applies the brakes to stop wheel spin or to keep you from fish tailing. It's the most god awful thing ever done to a 3/4 ton pickup outside of a v10 engine. With mine, it won't spin a donut on ice with it on.
