Just read a FB post from our elevator (yea, the elevator is on Facebook lol) that the rough estimate of acreage blown away Monday in IA and IL is at 275,000-550,000 acres. That seems a little unfathomable, but maybe I'm a tad naive...

I'm calling BS on the next USDA crop report right now if it talks about a good corn crop.

I've been hearing reports that the wind storm began south and west of Ames and extending all the way across the state and is up to 7 miles wide at it's widest point. That would be a shit-ton of acres. 130 miles x 3 miles wide = @250k acres, give or take. I'd guess the estimate is a wee bit high, but not completely out of the question.

North central Oklahoma is for sure gonna hurt the trendline yield this year and will add exactly squat to the alleged USDA excess. Nearly all corn is in silage pits or bags by now, and much of south central Kansas too I am told. A total trainwreck except for a few river bottom irrigators in Garfield county I hear.

We are at a critical time here in SW MO/ SE KS.......... early stuff has pollinated and trying to fill...... large majority is pollinating right now and needs a rain ASAP...... late stuff needs a rain just to get to pollination stage...... If the skies don't open PDQ the silage choppers will be getting after it here before August rolls around.

jd,
Don't exactly know where Liberal Misery is, but I live close enough to be experiencing nearly the same. Corn here north of B-ville looks good now, beans are starting to stress hard, and they typically give up the ghost much easier than corn and there isn't as much salvage value as corn. I see nothing but triple digits all next week again according to my weatherbabe here.
I'll start my prayers for ya tonight.
Heck, I even see our own Porter peach crop is greatly reduced, both from the Febuary freeze that got blooms, and 100+ heat hurting fillout. Stock up on peaches, peach futures will soon explode. I'm sure even AgTrader will be long peaches this year.
