Is anyone seeing any beef promotion ads or do you know where the money is going now? I am not seeing any ads and havent for a long time. Maybe they are promoting out of the country since we are exporting alot.

I can't really recall any recently either. Who the heck would know what they are doing with OUR money. I think I will leave it at that. Maybe Rich will chime in, I think we have the same opinion.

If I were to guess, they are buying Stetsons and Cadillacs for the top Administration.
There are a couple radio spots I hear on a local station, but not the TV and print ads that we saw a few years ago.

I haven't seen many beef ads lately either, hopefully they are spending the money in metro areas. None of us need to be told how good beef is. One thing I don't like about the checkoff is the double and triple dipping. Example, Hol. bull calf goes to the sale barn at a week old, $1, at 3 wght goes to sale barn again sold to a backgrounder,$1, 7wght goes to sale barn again sold to finish yard,$1, goes to sale barn again, sold for slaughter,$1. Larry I wonder how many dollars are generated each year through the checkoff program.

Now since we are not at the kiddy ground on the other site I'm not going to sugarcoat about those goshdarn crooks.
Sorry assed sonofabitching mutha fukn thieving bastards. Absolutely Worthless and everyone one of those braindead cattlemen associations that back these F'n pricks like the KLA are the biggest damn brown nosing ass sucking idiots I have ever known.
Helped the beef demand out.. Kiss my ass..... Thats bullshit and we know it. The best damn thing that ever happened was when Burger King and McDonalds started offering thier Angus burgers and the C.A.B. program. Bullshit I believe that checkoff had a g'damn thing to do with.
I still want to know which ceegar smoking asshole at the top got to finger cybil shephard that she walked off with a million dollars and didn't hold up her end of the deal for the ads she was supposed to make.
Every f'n one of those soliciting advocates is a lying hype pushing worthless sorry no working lazy thieving frick!
Checkoff is nothing more then a gov't protected legal mafia and for the exact reasons that larrydc listed. IF.. IF that calf was to have a dollar collected off of it one time and one time only... then MAYBE.. JUST MAYBE... I'd be more cooled off but the amount of revenue that can be taken off that calf in it's life is crooked to say the least.
What I wish is there was enough legal brainpower I could bring together with enough deep pockets so when the cattle market does tank in a few years as it does every so often when markets correct that we could sue them s.o.b's and leave them bankrupt and penniless or jumping out of buildings and killing themselves.
Feelnrite... I know you posted this to get me to blow up and it worked. That is one subject I get my ass chapped about and fast. This time... I don't have to sugarcoat and those that don't agree then by god, let's debate and show me real numbers.... not the ones that they did with thier own one sided so called polls. I can make a demonstration or vote go any way I want to in a controlled environment.
Off Soapbox.

You should have been a preacher Rich. I am not sure what kind of church it would be though. ;D I was googling and found where the beef board has given 200,000.00 to Japan for relief so most of the money is going out of the country it looks like. I havent been able to find out how much is brought in each year though. It looks like all our money is leaving the country so that does not surprise me much. Maybe they are pushing beef over seas where they can afford to buy it. It looks like they should push it here and try to tell folks it is still a buy even though it is high at the counter. I have just been thinking about it latley since I dont see any ads here at all and I used to.I knew how you felt Rich but was still a good sermon. Where do we send our donation?

lol
I wish I knew where to get the people I need to overthrow that mafia bunch of crooks and then I'd have an account setup to tell you exactly where to send the money.
That is the biggest problem with farmers today as it has been the last 200 years. They can't organize and get together. Between the ones that believe the hyped up b.s. and the ones that get a lil kickback to influence the others that believe thier hyped up bs.... then factor in the competition factor between farmers and ranchers within the occupation... We screw ourselves because we can't organize.
Every farmer affected by the checkoff that thinks it's crooked (and by far and wide I believe it is a larger population then the ones that say it's great) could put a 100 dollar bill in the hat voluntarily knowing that the checkoff would end and they wouldn't be mandated to give away money anymore to a fraudelant team of mouth workers..... I think we would just see the tip of the iceburg of what we could make happen in the industry in our favors.
You don't believe me, just look at that goofball fred phelps and his screwball bunch. He has the funds and the money and uses the courts continually to fuel his foolish rampage.... and he wins.
Organization. Thats the key. Money and brainpower is there but bringing it all together and under one roof of peace and one roof of main focus.... that seems to be the hardest thing to accomplish and until we do, Beef Checkoff is just one tick on the ass of problems we are going to face that are nothing more then plain thievery.

Well, I'll chime and give my thoughts, I'm like you guys where are they spending my money? Well I started listening to the radio, reading more local papers. The ads were there. I live in Idaho, but I don't get Idaho news ,mostly Utah. So I never see what is in Idaho media tell I travel north in the state for something. But I do hear beef ads on the biggest radio station in Utah, plus I hear ads for buying Utah ag. products from fruit to lamb, beef, etc.
I've also got a small dairy here, I will tell you those dollars I pay to promote product is well spent. There is almost not a day goes by I don't hear or read a dairy products ad. We must promote our products, if we are going to keep in business. I would gladly pay more to promote beef if they would do it like the dairymen do.
Now I will tell you, I was one to promote the NCBA, till this last year, when I heard about the corruption in their ranks, where they ( WE ) paid for officials to take their wife's to Asian country's. Sure pissed me off. I've since quit paying NCBA dues, I still pay Idaho cattle dues, they are a very good membership. I've been on their board, they have been in a lot of good fights for the producer. Backed me a 110 % when needed.
I will be the first to say their has been and will continue to be corruption at all levels, if not being watched by members. That is what is happening a little in the Utah organization. But I will say the do a good job of promoting product, the graft that goes on sometimes makes my blood boil. I also quit paying dues to them last year as well.
I guess I'm getting off track here but, because I'm talking cattle orgs. and not checkoff dollars. But I really have seen checkoff dollars working here in Idaho and Utah. They do a lot of promotion in stores, fancy hotel restaurants, they have developed a different cuts of meats, packaging, etc. Flat Iron Steak is one that come to my mind right at the moment.
I agree 100% Rich, we need to all be together we could rule the world, ag could. Just damn tough to get everybody on the same page. Now I've got one, lets run Rich for NCBA pres. I would gladly write a check again.
I've kind of gotten down of some of the people in these memberships, but there has been some real good people in those orgs., but also some real jerks that were there to just pad their pockets! That's why we need people from the grass roots to help promote out industry, but that's when we get burned out helping when you see the crap that goes on. God only knows the miles, I've put on for Idaho cattle that I've never got paid for, but they have been there to help back me all the time in fights with environmental groups, and Fed. government. So I feel damn proud of belonging to them.
I guess I better get my butt to work, got to go bale for a guy down the road that broke down. I feel asleep, while trying to fix wife's computer, downloading software. Damn she left me in chair sleeping! So I got up to check computer and was checking websites, getting to be too many to keep on! LOL
I think this will be a good one, I still try to check out AgTalk because I got a few guys on there that have been a great help to me. I just can't find the hours to checks all these great sites out.

I love the latest hype to push beef and I am damn suprised that I havn't seen it appear in a newsletter yet bragging about it.... and.... I'm convinced this is also part of the reason why sheep and lamb producers are seeing such an increase in thier market when it's not even close to christmas time yet. If you havn't yet, familiarize yourself with a meal option we are seeing more and more at fast food resteraunts called the Gyro. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyro_(food)

It was the special on the menu. Can't tell you what all was in it but the meat was beef. IIRC, the gyro sandwich with a bowl of soup and coffee was around $8. Hit the spot on a cold rainy day after an auction.
