I'm going to re-wire the 8N and convert it to 12 volt. This old girl and it's cousin the 9N were the work horses of our farm for a lot of years. Later it was our ATV, now it's the lawn mower. I got the wiring harness yanked, and the generator pulled. Now I'm wondering if maybe I jumped the gun a bit and could have gotten a little more life out of the old harness with just the price of some rubber tape and electrical tape?

After market harnesses for that are not that expensive.

I would opt for replacing it all.

I would opt for replacing it all. Yeah, I did. A couple rolls of wire, a new wiring diagram, alternator and a few electronic goodies and the old goat's running like a dream.
