End of story ? Not even ! Your story might end Mark, but mine is just beginning ! Yaaaaayyy me ! You can do whatever you want in your Quaker church, and I don't even care if your church performs Same Sex marriage or not. However, To call it ( legally ) anything BUT marriage would be unacceptable, unequal and constitutionally impossible. But I don't have A problem with your personal Beliefs so long as they do not interrupt My personal freedom(s). Also, You don't have to accept the inclusion of gay marriage if you would prefer not to, likewise I don't have to accept your incorrect beliefs.

Mark, what about interracial marriage ? Interfaith ? Woman older than the man ?
So, basing your Belief that marriage is one man and one woman per the Bible then you also believe that women are property ?
And how do you square that one man and one woman thing with the fact that many Biblical heroes have multiple wives ?

Let me ask you some questions, because I've never really followed this to close. Do most states recognize a civil union now? Can your partner give permission in the hospital...would they have the same rights as a spouse at the time of death if there was no will, that type of things? Why did California pass a ban.....................I thought that would be the last state to be against it. And on a lighter note................What are your thoughts on polygamy, should it be legal? Myself, I don't see how a state can call polygamy illegal unless they have a law against having an affair (I think some states did/do years ago but not many). To me, the guy is married to one woman (see posts above) and is having an affair with some other women.

What about divorce Mark ? Since it is anti-Biblical do you refuse to recognize someone who is remarried as married to their current spouse?

What about divorce Mark ? Since it is anti-Biblical do you refuse to recognize someone who is remarried as married to their current spouse? I think that is a Catholic thing. it is not forbidden in the Friends Church. Actually I've been married three times. Long story short, my first wife died, and I remarried to soon to a lady that had a lot of problems and after a 10 year struggle we divorced. I stayed single for 13 years and then remarried again and have been happily married for 15 years.

Divorce is a gospel issue. Divorce destroys the union between man and woman in a way that perverts the picture of Christ’s union with the church. In other words, divorce as the permanent separation of a man and woman betrays the possibility of a permanent separation of Christ and the church (which is patently false). So, in 1 Corinthians 7:10-16, Paul calls us to remain married, even in the hard situations for the sake of this picture of the gospel and for the purpose of evangelism and discipleship within the family unit.
I'm thinking Paul saying it makes it a Christian thing .

And, I charge that marriage is a legal thing not a Religious one because you cannot be legally recognized as married by getting married in a church without a license . But you are legally married by a Judge as long as you have the license .

No problem with any of the above So, basing your Belief that marriage is one man and one woman per the Bible then you also believe that women are property ? Not sure where you got that....I sure didn't say it And how do you square that one man and one woman thing with the fact that many Biblical heroes have multiple wives ? Not a bible scholar....perhaps old testament? Let me ask you one Marland since you seem so open to any union being a marriage...................can a fellow marry his goat?

OK I'll agree to disagree. Thats Cool.Let me ask you some questions, because I've never really followed this to close. Do most states recognize a civil union now? No Can your partner give permission in the hospital...would they have the same rights as a spouse at the time of death if there was no will, that type of things? In Iowa gay marriage is legal so the answer to that is yepper, but should we travel to omaha or chicago and get hit by a school bus or other and end up in the ER, those states would say sorry pal, no visitation for you. ( which I never understood anyway ) Why did California pass a ban.....................I thought that would be the last state to be against it. That was few years ago now, before the majority are accepting, but mostly its because the mormon church and other hate groups pumped millions into the campaign. And on a lighter note................What are your thoughts on polygamy, should it be legal? Personally if people want to have 10 spouses, that's their problem, not mine. I dont think it would be very popular tho, the only reason LDS sect does is because of a made up old doctrine and the mens were in charge and said : hey Sarah, you 13 now, go be with Ishmal down the street and wed him. Thats about all it took. The other stuff you talk about I think the word is " Swingers "

Mark, what about interracial marriage ? Interfaith ? Woman older than the man ? No problem with any of the above well earlier you claimed marriage is a religious institution , the Bible says it's Christian and it's the only place sex can take place due to sex being for procreation . I threw the interracial in just for kicks on a bigotry basis . The interfaith on the basis of marriage being claimed as Christian IE: a Muslim and Christian which is against the historical basis of Gospel and therefore covers Gay marriage too . The older Woman one based on the premise of procreation. all strawmen really . Got that one straight from Biblical Scholars who incuded it as their basis for denying gay marriage Yep Old Law which is still cited as reasons against gay marriage which, validates it as a current argument when the same topic is discussed Can the goat consent ? can the goat legally join into a contract ? Is the goat a citizen ? and is that all you've got ? but asking me that tends to show that you do believe the Old Testament precept that wives are property since they would be lumped in the Tenth Commandment as stated in Exodus 20:17 and again in Deuteronomy 5:21

But to give a better answer to your question about if a man can , in my opinion, marry a goat . Sure , why not ? it neither picks my pocket or breaks my leg . It does not cheapen my marriage only my wife or I can do that . There aren't going to be half goat children running around for society to deal with and she won't be on welfare when he dumps her so why would you be against it ?
