We don't need ANY delivery.
The USPS is outdated as the horse and buggy.
All checks should be direct deposit.
All bills should be delivered via the internet.
All junk mail should be outlawed.
Reading material should be digitalized.

Hmmmm not in agreement with all those points. Yes the USPS is like the pony express. I prefer to deposit my checks and do my banking in person. Many folks in the west do not have access to the internet and some have NO interest in it at all. Yep on the junk mail. Many of the older gen don't own a computer or know how to turn one on to read a magazine or paper.

Old people had to learn how to use a microwave. Things evolve. Some day I'll be old(er) and will have to learn new things. Oh well, that's life. Start with one less day of delivery every 5 years until it's zero days.
Most places of large employment require direct deposit and have now for quite a while.

Tough stance there Cuz . I'm not saying it's the wrong stance just tough . The 5 year plan you propose could be workable , but taking 30 years to elimination may not be quick enough .
Funny that I have customers younger than me that don't even have cell phones or internet (but do have a fax) and I have 70 odd year old guys that text like like crazy .
My old boss when he was about 80 couldn't figure out his TV remote , now that he's in his late 80's doesn't even turn the TV on . The man was a marketing genious , doesn't store numbers in his phone because he remembers them all (prob doesn't know how anyway) and can't navigate channels on a tv without locking the TV up ? Yeah he'll be a computer user...
The over time approach you suggested would probably work but there will still be those who just can't get it .

As long as the taxpayers dont have to put any money in it,they can deliver however many days they want, but untill then,we cant afford it.

Uh huh, a nice comfy idea, but ummm sure well they can certainly minimize and be more efficient. But the USPS will need to remain intact forever for those years that the web comes to a screeching halt due to either foreign or internal hacking, extreme weather events and the occasional wayward asteroid.

I would bet if the web would go down the USPS would not be able to operate either, all their logistics is via computer wired to the internet.

If thats the case, how many horses would the Govt need to maintain in order to guarantee delivery should the worse scenario occur ?
Maybe Homing pigeons would be cheaper....

We don't need any dairy farmers either, but I guess the government lets them hang on. BTW, I work for the Postal Service.
