Mark, have you ever thought on the outcome if you and that poor bastard in the 9th ward had traded each others circumstances ? Spose You would have risen atop the nearest levee to proclaim your superiority over those who just couldn't manage every subsidy served before them ? Also, do you have many 2X4's ?

Farm subsidies ARE a bad thing,as is welfare. Now,if neither one of you got anything, that would be perfect. I cant think of any reason for the government to pay anybody.

Spose You would have risen atop the nearest levee to proclaim your superiority over those who just couldn't manage every subsidy served before them ? Also, do you have many 2X4's ? I have a novel idea AJ.........how about they get a damn job. My wife is from La. she grew up half way between Baton Rouge and N. Orleans, and still has family down there. After Katrina these same folks were offered jobs cleaning up....around there own homes at a pretty good rate of pay. Would they do it...hell no. The were told that they could ride a bus (government provided) from the motels in BR (government provided) and would be paid a good salary (government provided) to clean up there own neighborhoods. They chose to not work. My feelings for some one like that................to hell with them. if neither one of you got anything, that would be perfect. I cant think of any reason for the government to pay anybody. I agree with you 420...I said that in the first post. My point is that when someone compares a hard working farmer to a life long, welfare recipient (not some one who gets temporary help) it would be a poor thing to say to me today....that was my point P.S. You are getting close

Ok Mr Mark, If your story is accurate I don't think anyone would disagree, but I'd have to see conclusive data to support your claim. I still don't know how many two-bys you have ......

The idea is if you are able to work, why would you need government help? It wasnt so bad in the 80's,when we werent making much money, but now with the Government in debt, and the farmers (grain) making record money, its an embarrasment. I have farmers in my office all the time ragging on government spending, the last one went down a list-unemployed,disability,medicaid etc,as all the people he had to support, then told me how nice a confrence was he just attended,I asked who put that on?He just looked down and said, the Government,I guess.

If they cut subsidies there would be a lot of special interest groups pissed off. I mean who will tell me what to plant every year.

AC,I pray every nite that some day you will be able to decide what to plant on your own. I pray that Mark will not have to pay taxes, but still get a check for farming and be able to drive the bus. I pray that Marland can suck more to feed his family amen.

I think I'll just jack up rents on what I cash rent, maybe go to a flex rent, the new thing here is to flex rent, but in case of a drought, your aph is your minimum yield.
