My experience tells me that most do. My husband and I used to laugh at the relatively large number off newer dairy barns around here, because they were built with insurance dollars. If you're a small to mid-size guy, that's a great way to get a better barn.
Read the farm papers through the years about guys with new barns and you will find this a lot.
That being said, barn fires suck.

Yup, at least around here. Guy my dad picked milk up for had two barn fires, he let the first one go because it was just a hay barn and no longer even needed. But the second was his milking parlor. The hay in the second story caught fire and all the water that the firefigthers used ended up destroying his milking stuff.

Can think of several that sold the cows after a barn fire, some didn't have cows to sell. Had one down by where dad grew up sold the cows after loosing his machine shed/machinery in a fire, but I guess there might be a interesting story behind that, living the good life with a yearly vacation even when you can't afford it catches up to you.
I guess I'm like a lot of other farmers, I dont' know what else I'd do, don't have enough land to crop for a living. With some of the crap I've dealt with this fall/winter I've pondered what would happen if the barn burnt down, Should really say the hell with it and quit, but Likely a fire wouldn't be the final nail in the coffin as there's an empty barn sitting a few miles up the road that likely has the equipment in it yet.

Wheels, tell Brother John (I can't remember him either, see, most of you guys are just another pretty face to me) that I could care less about the price of corn.
We haven't bought any since September. And we don't plan on buying any until summer and even then, we won't buy much.
Go to Agweb if you want to see dairy farmers have dialogues about ethanol, corn, beans, etc. Those dairy farmers make very valid points about the mandates, biofuel, & corn planting intentions.

Told him, LOL I'd be damn shocked if you remember me, for the most part we only started crossing paths a year ago or less,When I joined here and on Dairyforums, and I'd say for the most part we've never really had anything to say to each other.
Just looked at agweb,Was wondering if it was SF's page (guess not) ,seems there's a lot of familiar names there, lets just say I'll stick with the webpages I currently frequent as that one doesn't seem to have any bigger corner on intelligent conversation than the others
