Farmers will plant corn as their number one choice. It's what they are set up to do and the government rewards corn farmers commensurately. Beans will be their 2nd choice. They have done this since I can remember. ;D
They will not plant oats or alfalfa or forage sudan or any other such crop. That's just nonsense.
Pllleeeaaassseee don't insult anyone's intelligence by suggesting otherwise.
Dairy farmers will continue to buy whatever looks best on the Feedval software. Dairy farms will continue to get larger and there will be less of them, as has been the case forever. Dairy farms will continue to buy much of their feed because they are dairy farmers and not crop farmers. There will be more robotic setups because it is best for the cows.
High SCC milk will still be ok as it is politically incorrect to shut down a large high SCC producer.
Processors will continue to screw the dairy farmer, why?, because they can.
The gov't will not pass a Farm Bill before Sept 30 and they might not even meet that deadline. Can, meet road.

Around here-Eastern corn belt, the percentages dont change much,no one got much wheat planted this year,so we will be 55% beans 40% corn,no oats, there may be 20 acres of oats in this county because there is NO MONEY in oats. We do raise some alfalfa, but it generally goes on the rollin ground.

Nobody anywhere is going to cut back on corn acres.

First forage sorghum is a rescue crop under most conditions for corn silage or winter killed hay, second, corn and beans only works so long on all but the best ground. And third I just read an article posted on the DMC app for my phone about how bad Cali is in trouble, the money supply is getting real tight another year like this or '09 in the next two or three an the biggest economic disaster in history could unfold right in front of all of us.

I think Cali dairy farmers are too big to fail. I won't lose any sleep waiting for milk to go up to $30 because Cali farmers might fail some day.

I don't think most banks believe this today, and a federal bail out of the dairy industry would be biggest mistake

normande, I hope you're right. But this could get pretty political. Cali farmers have a lot of clout.
