My mom had a pack of Twinkies on the table when I got home from school every day.
It was part of my youth.

It is interesting that the Teamsters Union could see the writing on the wall but the Baker,.....,Confectioners Union couldn't. With the current health craze, I would think a person would do what he could to save his job rather than push the company through bankruptcy and out the other side to a fire sale.

Not that unions are always bad but this is one example where they are.

something smells funny to me ...
The union may have played a significant part in the downfall of Hostess .... BUT
Why was there a 300% salary increase recently for management?

Bruce it wasn't recently , it was '04 and it was the CEO according to the union according the the Huffington Post . Although some other management positions gained upwards of 30% .
They shuffled through several CEO's in the past few years and one detail that MIGHT have been left out about that 300% was it was spent hiring a new CEO , trying to get top talent to save the company .Might have been the same with other management positions to..... I dunno .

Having been in union negotiations and federal mediation, I can say that was the absolute quickest I have seen mediation deemed a failure. There is obviously no common ground to work with in bridging the gap.
As the saying goes, the union cutoff its nose to spite its face.

Sounds like there was some "venture capital" involved, usually bad news for a company in the long run imho.
