need help. What is this bug? This insect has shown up in one of my hayfields they only thing that it is attacking is some barnyard grass. It skips over the bermuda and dallisgrass Attachments:

it's a chinch bug Never even heard of them in a hayfield, but at least they are just on the barnyard grass and this field is about to get cut anyway in the next couple days. Any survivors will be terminated once the armyworms show up which im sure will be any day now.

chinch bugs are always in hay meadows around here. They will leave the grass for green wheat or milo. Normal years the precipitation keeps the damage they do hidden. In dry times, the grass cannot out grow their feeding.
