Yes Whites are positive air . Depending on what corn disk comes with it (3 sizes s-m-l ) choose seed on the upper end for what it will accept and turn the air up . Rounds do work better in these disks in my opinion. We've had White planters for 20 + years here and would get another one in a heartbeat. Run a 6818 central fill here now- 10-20-30 inch model.

I have an 8182- 12X30, and it works great IMO, used a 5100 6X30 for years, I've been using small seed disc for corn under the 50 lb sacks usually 2.25-2.50 lbs of pressure, usually 5-5.5 mph.

have you had any frame issues? Always have heard good things about the units but was told that they had some frame issues with this series.

NO frame problems with mine yet, bought it used out in sw KS from big farmer, He's still using white planters so I guess he was happy, he went to either 16 or 24 row.

I had a 8182 12 / 30 with fert and it was my first White and I traded it 3 yrs ago for a White 8816 .
Only problem I had was the first yrs the lug bolts worked loose on the carrier wheels and was covered under warranty. To avoid that happening again I put longer bolts in then ran a nut on the back side to make sure it stayed tight.
I always use the small plate for all sizes seed just adjust the air pressure according .
I never had any issues with the frame and I'd guess if there was a problem I'd lean towards operator error. Never had any trouble with the folding switches so I liked it enough to order another one.
Would recommend you keep the clutches greased every day .

I had a 6342 white. Good planter , simple meters . It was the black machine bar and I never had any issues with the frame on it. I ended up selling it to my dad and down graded to a kinze because it was cheap. lol I wouldnt be scared of a white. Just make sure you have a good dealer.
