My 630 has developed a bad habit of running a bit warm lately, on up to 200 over extended use, cutting hay, baling hay. Noticed today some white residue under the manifold inbetween the head and manifold body, (missing the manifold gasket) Thought it might be the thermostat, but am starting to wonder if it is the head gasket going instead. Would rather replace a thermostat than a head gasket.

Loss of water from the radiator.....pressure in the radiator.....miss in engine.
Run a compression check , not hard to detect.

Agree with Mark, have also been told to take off belts and run a little if bubbles in radiatior appear while running this way head or head gasket.

If it's just a slight leak and there is no coolant getting in the engine oil a bottle of Bar's Leaks might get you by for a long time.
Had a Case DC that had a leaky radiator. Ran it all summer and by fall it was all water. Put anti-freeze in for winter along with a couple big bottles of Bar's and it was good for the winter again. After about 10 yrs of this it got to where the Bar's didn't help anymore and I put on another used radiator.
