Finished corn today, started on the 10th. The soil temp was warmer when I started than it is now. Ground was in perfect shape to plant......(Plant in the dust.....bins will bust) type deal.
Went ahead and put a few beans in the ground, think I'll shut down the beans and see what the weather is going to do. Have a few days of rain coming, but no washouts in forecast.
I'm not to worried about seed planted in cold DRY soil.............but don't want it in cold WET soil.....does this sound like a plan?

Sounds like a plan. It takes between 90 and 120 GDU's to get corn out of the ground and the longer it sits, the more nasty stuff can happen to the seed and emerging seedling.
Bugs and disease especially like slow germinating corn and soys.
We waited until two days ago to start planting. The soil temps were a bit lower than they were around the 10th, but the forcast now is for a continual warming trend. Back on the 10th there was a greater possiblity of cooling. I'm glad we waited.

Started planting yesterday.....ground conditions perfect but cool....and overnite's for the next 5 mornings (according to forcast ) look to be in the low 30's. Not too worried.....our first planted corn always takes 3 weeks to come up. Earliest I've ever started by about 5 days. John

Got 75 acres in before the showers hit last nite...... thats OK.....got attacked by dust-devils planting on April 27 !! Thats just simply wrong for this part of the world. 25+ acres to go on corn and then to the beans. Forcast this week says warmer....sure hope so now that I've put seed in the ground !!! John
