I see that is used by the Climate Insurance guys. A town close to me showed the last rain as being over 1", close to about 1.70", however the NWS station at the airport 2.5 miles out of town had reported 0.86" for that day. That is the main reason I am not sure a guy would get proper payment on this climate insurance stuff.

wheat : Have got to agree on on the climate insurance......They have to use to big of an area and rain events can vary a lot in even amile or especially two. Probably more accurate in the temp. area. Rain here a week ago was 1 and 1/2 " in my guage and 1'' in guage at the fert. plant mile and a half from here. Guess it depends on how dark the cloud was over your house !!! John

Those are what an old radio weatherman here called "Shotgun Showers". Lean a double barreled shotgun against a fence and you will find 1 1/2" in one barrel and 1/4" in the other.
