Kiss the dryland goodbye here. Yes it is early, but there is not much moisture left in the soil and it looks like last years weather pattern is setting in again here. I cant step a fence post in on the nonirrigated ground either, put in a temporary wood cornerpost on the fringe of a pivot I just put an inch on, moisture was nearly gone after six inches. Not going to worry, just looks like this is going to be a multiyear unless it starts raining this summer. Longrange NOAA forcast (and we all know how accurate they are) is calling for much hotter and dryer over the next 90 days. Something tells me the irrigation well will not see many breaks.
