Is it just me or is the raccoon population absolutely in love with the sweet corn this year? I have already shot 16 this yearwhile irrigating at night, but I am still losing a lot of ears. Any ideas? I don't think oil and matches will work.

Plan A ---- Caution the DNR frowns on this. Get some Golden Marlin flybait, place in shallow pan, pour cheap cola on it. Coons will go about 50 ft. and die. Essentially this poisons the nerves. Downside, besides maybe being illegal in your state?, is that it is non-selective so whatever gets in there is dead. I wouldn't risk my farm dog doing this.
Plan B - bait box traps with stale marshmellows. Take two marshmellows, thread them on a wire. I've been surrounding the marshmellow bait with plastic mesh, like onion bag mesh, so the coons struggle to get at the bait. They're more likely to trip the trap that way.
Plan C. - heard that playing a portable radio in the sweet corn patch deters the coons? Probably should tune to some dope smoking, maggot infested, pothead rap music station for the worst noise?

I use an electric fence one strand is about 4 inches off the ground. The next one about 8 to 10 inches above the ground. Always works here.

I only run one wire about 6 inches high. "Here" it seems many of them will fill up on corn before having fly bait and soda pop for desert. Then every dead one needs 6 pallbearers.
