Good, bad and the ugly about them. Looking for a tractor for bushhogging duties and baling, but mostly bushhogging. Can count on one hand how many times I've been around White tractors but found one that may work. One of the things I need to know is about the underside of them is their anything hanging down that would get snaged on small trees (hyd lines, filters, elecrtrical lines, etc). Which engines did they even put in these tractors, trans any good?
Thanks Andrew

Don't own one myself. Neighbor has a 2-135 which is basically the same tractor. From other discussions of these tractors I am left with these impressions.
Pros: Bulletproof Oliver design trans/rear end. The tractor is a big heavy workhorse with a lot of built in weight. White cab as good as any and better than some of the era.
Cons: Hercules engine is a good cold starter and strong for power but a fuel hog and has a reputation for shorter life than other engines of its era. Need OH around 4K hrs.
Front end a bit weak, definitely not a loader tractor. Oliver designed steering sector pushed to its upper limits on a heavy tractor this size.

Only 1000 pto unless someone swapped the pto off a 135 or smaller tractor. Model year has a huge impact the late 70's unit's were rough and 3 series later around 1988 had better creature comfort's controls and cab wise were more user friendly. Series 1 had grey stripes on the side panel's covered with White Emblem's over the top. Series 2 looked the same outside but had a digital round tach and other small changes. The series 3 were red striped panel's with WFE decal's on and a different tach, light's on rocker switches, throttle and 3 speed went on right side console, And the shifter had an actual shift slot's the earlier ones you needed to hunt some till you got used to it.

The one I have been around are good tractors. Not bad on fuel. Some people have a little trouble shifting the transmission but I had no trouble. Don't go down hill with the 3 speed in the under drive mode unless you have along stretch of road in front of you. Underdrive free wheels down hill!

As far as interior I hate them. Our 2-135 had the column 3spd and that was probly the most annoying part. It was 6 years newer than our deere 4230 but hands down I'll take the deere cab anyday over that darn white. Engine is pretty decent on fuel, trans is notchy and can be diffucult to shift, and nearly imposible at times unless you bring the 3spd back to direct. Had overhaul at about 5k, transmission done around 5500 hrs. Cheap old pwr but now should be good for many more years. Not as user friendly to me as deeres of the age but a good old workhorse non the less.
