A little background. I'm looking at possibly picking up an Ipad 2 for using with Precision Planting's new Fieldview. I already have a Samsung Tab that is feeding internet to my CORS autosteer, so that will be in the cab to tether wifi. My question to somebody who may have watched these trends more, is how much of a discount could I expect if the Ipad gets launched now? Will ebay be flooded with people wanting to get out of 2s? I have had very good luck with used or refurbed electronics and see no reason to be any more scared of that than any other used farm equipment.

The rumors are that the iPad 2 will remain on the market along with the iPad 3 - but at a reduced price. Rumors are sometimes wrong though. Release date is 3/7 so wait until then to find out. Even if the 2 stays on the market, there will inevitably be current 2 owners looking to sell and buy a 3. Keep an eye on ebay and craigslist. I would think the used 2's would be selling for around $350 or so - that seems to be about what the iPad 1 was selling for used after the release of the iPad 2.
I have no idea how much data storage the Precision Planting thing eats up, but I'd check into it if I were you. May need to opt for a 32 GB model.

Thanks for the input. They do recommend the 32g. I've started watching a few on ebay and they do seem to be a little softer already.

FWIW - the rumor mill regarding the iPad 2 staying on the market is saying it will be only in 8 & 16 GB versions only. I guess we will know for sure next week.
The iPad 3 will have a faster and more powerful processor. That could be a plus for the Precision Planting setup too. Something to consider at least.

McCartman, I ended up with a 32 GB Verizon model delivered to my door with warranty til the end of June, for $460. Feel fairly good about that. Now I just need to play with it for a week or two and find out how inferior it must be to my Galaxy tab ;D

Actually, your warranty is good for a full year. I believe you probably have free tech support till June if you need it.
Enjoy!

Mac, I bought a used ipad. Pretty sure the warranty til June is legit. Impressions after a few days of use: Some apps are better on Android, some are better on fruit machine, some tie. The internet browsing experience, is hands down, ten thousand percent better in Safari than the goat turd browser that US Cellular chooses to package in their Android machines. Smooth, no lockups, no hesitation, and, wait for it, I am definitely on board with no Flash.
