Why sell something when your going to loose money on it? Your phone will do way more than an Iphone will do anyways. Who want's to be tied to Itunes for everything.

Actually there latest update they want you to go to the store and do it And people complained about iTunes back when iPhones were updated that way? Sheesh! Also, regarding carriers losing money on the iPhone. You are absolutely correct. Isn't it great how Apple has carriers right by the short hairs? They cannot afford to not carry it and lose subscribers by the millions - yet cannot afford to carry it either because they lose money on it. Well, they aren't "losing" money - just not making as much as they are off the cheap knock-off Android phones. Plus, Apple won't allow carriers to load the iPhone with all sorts of crapware either. It strikes me as odd how that is one of the complaints people have with PC's - they come pre-loaded with crapware - yet don't seem to "get" that carriers are doing the same thing with their Android phones.

U.S cellular would loose money because if you are on there new plan you can upgrade in as little as 11months.. No other carrier does that. So subsidizing an $800 Iphone every eleven month would be to costly.

Sure am glad I live out on the prairie and don't have to worry about all that cell phone crap. Smoke signals still work well out here. Don't believe me, just come out here and light a fire and see how many people show up to talk. ;D

I guess the point I was trying to make in my last post above... I assume that USC offers high-end Android phones that are "comparable" (and that is a stretch, IMO) to the iPhone. Base model 16 GB iPhone is usually the highest seller - and they are around $600 if bought outright. If you can terminate a USC contract at 11 months, a $600 Android phone would not be paid for either. So, if I am correct on all of this, it is a wash if comparing a higher end Android to an iPhone. Also, consider the fact that Apple is still producing iPhones that are two generations old - the 3GS. They are now being offered for free with a 2 yr contract thru ATT & VZ. This might be a viable option for USC and not lose money with their terms. So, it all boils down once again to USC not wanting to play by Apple's rules - which includes not allowing them to load the phone with crapware. Lots of people like to take pot shots at Apple for being too "controlling" - and that is sometimes true - but it always boils down to control in order to give the end user the best overall user experience. Sure, giving users some more leeway can sometimes allow them to do some nifty things - but it also opens the door to problems. If a user is willing to take that chance, Android is most definitely the way to go. But don't bitch when the phone ends up with malware, is buggy, and you find out eventually that Google is taking pictures of you sitting on the can without your approval.

i am fine with that as long as my cell phone bill doesnt go up... I agree. I couldn't give two spits about whether carriers are making anything or not. To answer your comments, Mojeeper - most of the Android phones are over $200 now with contract for the entry level high-end devices. I suspect the iPhone will be following that path too - since carriers are "losing" money. As for Woz - This was discussed over on NAT when that hit the news. Woz is an old hacker and he likes to mess with things. That type, as I mentioned, are naturally more attracted to the Android OS. However, Woz always seems to be one of the, if not THE first person in line to get whatever new Apple device is hitting the streets. Andy Rubin made Android what it is. He used to work for Apple (where else would he get his ideas? ) Woz worked with him for awhile before leaving Apple. I have a hunch that Woz was just throwing an old friend a bone when he was interviewed for that article.
