There are some pretty cool things with that. Have you used Evernote? I just started using it and what I like about it, is that if you make a change on your iPad, it automatically syncs that change to both your iPhone and pc. I don't know if you can use a stylus with Evernote, I need to check into that, especially if it may have some of the similar size/color functionalities as note shelf.

Never used Evernote on the iPhone or iPad, but tried it a couple of years ago on my Mac. I thought it was ok, but just didn't use it much. I should give it another try since I know they have added a lot of functionality to it since I first tried it.
As for the stylus - they can be used with any app. The stylus just takes the place of your fingertip. Some people prefer to use a stylus over their finger - and for handwriting or drawing, I think I would too. My problem is just keeping track of the thing. I'm betting there are cases out there with stylus holders though - if a person looked for them.
Keep in mind - if you decide to go with a stylus, be sure to find one that is made to work with a touch capacitive screen. The old stylus types that the Palm Pilots used will not work with the iPad.
