Just curious, with our unseasonable warm winter , do you think Soybean rust will be a problem this year?

Frost kills it. Most double crop beans will get it late. More depends on the storms moving it up from the south.

www.extension.iastate.edu/CropNews/2011/1017mueller2.htmThis is a pretty good discussion of why it didn't happen, and gives a clue why it probably won't in 2012. The common thinking is that in Iowa, and likely you in Missouri, will receive rust spores from west of the Mississippi delta. This likely means Texas and points southwest. Due to the drought in that area, spores won't survive well. As Pat said, frost kills it, which has reached south enough to kill it back to the coastal southern states. I'm one of the Iowa "First Responders" for ASR. After the first couple years, and an "alleged" find in southeast Iowa of an infected leaf in a soybean bin, no one here is getting too excited about it.
