Just mosying through the Shoup magazine on my desk and the hard surfaced are more then twice the price of the non hard surfaced blades.
In one example.. Going from $5.95 a blade non hard surfaced to $12.50 a blade for hard surfaced.
Hard surfacing will more then outlast the standards life by double?

I always hard surfaced the ones that were in wheel tracks to make them wear more with the others. It made a big difference in how long they lasted.

I hardsurface my own and put in wheel tracks. I also put a little dab in the leading edge of bolt heads. You learn which shovels will go where and then hard surface for those certain spots to get most life out of the shovels.
I bought a spool to use with the wire welder but so far have just used the sticks.
