How's a 1989 7200 compare with an 82 7000? Both are front fold 12 row 30" planter.
It does not appear that either one is a flex frame. So I'm assuming when the planter is in field position at is the same as a rigid frame planter.
The 7200 is a Vac unit. Will the eSET kit work in a 1989.
I've only ran a Cyclo planter myself. Dad had a 7000 planter for 20 years but I never planted with it. I've been told I'll go broke if I keep running a Cyclo. So, I looking for options. Not too many choices out there in 12 row 30" planters.

Ack, I've got to start adding green paint so I look like a real farmer. I'm starting with the planter.

If you decide to be an idiot and buy a 12r-30 HRF Ihc planter I am going to become your very next best friend.
I think I have mastered the ins and outs of that s.o.b. joke for an electrical system they designed on those.
Like you said, older 12r's are slim pickings.
I'd sure go with a newer one though Dan.
One thing on the HRF IHC though, it's like pulling two 6 rows through the field. The center is pivoted on both planter frames. Makes it nice for planting terrace channels.
I am not familiar with deere planters at all. Can't help you much there.

Well I know where 7200 12 row came from. I'm waiting on a call from one of them to get more details on it from them.
Rich I've looked at the HRF and some of the 950 and 955 12-30. Case is getting pretty proud of their parts. And the Deere seems to have more after market parts available. I know one thing ISAH ain't going to enjoying filling and dumping 12 seed boxes.

Dan : I don't think Deere is going to be any cheaper on parts ! JMHO ! The selling point on Deere has always been spacing in the row , from what I have seen. Later research has shown that uniform depth of planting can be more important and IH planters are very good at that. On the Deere 7200 vacuum 12 row I believe the main frame is hinged to allow flex on rolling land. A lot of Deere planters were sold , so there is a large market for parts inovators to sell to with improvements to original design . IMHO, Some of the improvements should have been engineered by Deere before they introduced the planter. John

The 7200 can be a rigid or flex frame. The flex fram will have a hinge in the middle. We have a flex frame but they are not as common as the rigid frame. Larry

I had run IH 800's and then traded it off for a 955 years ago , the 955 we had was the biggest POS I have ever seen , the dealer had a guy got every day we planted corn trying to get it to work , traded it off the next year for a 94 7200 vac. it did ok but just didn't drop as good as i thought it should , i did put on the pro drive ( the cable dirve on the unit's ) and that helped smooth it out , and i finnally did a great job , if your looking at one , chech out the lift arm brushing's , there is no gresse zerk in them , if it wear's into the arm , you will be buying a new arm for like 3 hundred bucks a pop . Also I put in all the new deere stuff in the boxs , the drop tubes are better but still wear out way to fast . Will see what happen's this year , traded it off for a new Kinze ASD with finger pick up .

BTW City Boy Ken...thought you would like to know....I still plant with an IH 800...I guess it sucks to be me!! A 6-row , all rebuilt before I acquired about 6 years ago. My two sons (both former IH mechanics ) checked it over , said everything that wears and is subject to replacement was replaced and unit was good to go. Has been a good planter on my smaller acreage. Say 'Hi" to the girls and the wife....enjoy the sunshine....could have known the cold would follow you .......Have a good one John
