I was told last week by my flock supervisor I have the worst-looking farm in the Perdue complex here. I thought that was a bit harsh, but I said, at least I'm first at something. Needless to say things got a bit more heated after that. Now I know I should possibly mow and weedeat and put curtains on the windows, and generally make it look like a damn country club, but that just isn't my style. So after being told that if I didn't conform and "do better" I wouldn't be placed back in birds. And now after much consideration I have decided upon a plan of action. I'm going to fence around the four chicken houses, and find some of the meanest and stinkiest billy goats that like to ass-rape anything that walks. Its just a bit disgruntling, b/c I am a above average producer, and have never had any concerns about production, just the way it looks(not junked up, just not mowed to two inches around the houses like they would like). I guess this is a long post, but if anyone has any of the aforementioned goats or other animals that fit the criteria, just let me know.
I guess I should expound a bit more to defend myself, lol. The place is not bad looking but its not clean-shaven either(nor am I for that matter). I have a four wheeler and sprayer, but when I have browned it down, it was not what they wanted either. I do have pride in my operation, I am always well above average in production. I haven't had any issues with what goes on inside the buildings. I am going to fence the farm and move several heifers there just to keep it picked short. Its not like I didn't bushhog it three times this summer. I don't know, I know it will work out, but sometimes I just wonder how and why.

I don't know but I think I might would be raising cain with his superior. FWIW, zero turn mowers were a great invention around chicken houses. Where are you located, I hear rumors several companies are trying to dump contracts right now.

I guess this is a long post, but if anyone has any of the aforementioned goats or other animals that fit the criteria, just let me know. Stop and think about one thing. Those sonofabitches with PETA go hard hot and heavy after the chicken industry. They just loooove to find someone that looks substandard and then out come the video cameras. There is the very good chance that is what your supervisor is getting after with wanting you to make the place look a lil more "professional". Now.... question... It possible for you to put up a fence a good distance from the houses that noone from the public roadway could film and see from the public access road? Then, post your signs about no guests allowed without previous written permission so if they did show up to film, you would have a leg to stand on for a suit against them for trespassing? You could use the safety standpoint like hog finishing farms do about wanting to lower and limit disease transfer onto the farm and the general health and purity of your chickens. (Yea.. purity... I know... assenine wording considering your raising the filthiest animal on the planet for human consumption)... but is any of that a possibility that would eliminate you having to do the extensive amount of mowing that you don't get done? Next question... How's come you ain't just purchased an ATV sprayer and a tote of roundup? He wants it short... no problem... turn it brown too and have it over with then go over the top of it with the sprayer full of JD green paint. Problem solved. Got to be intuitive. Don't worry, it's not so much about wanting your place to look pretty because your a purdue producer. It's about wanting your place to look good because of the people that may see it and make waves in the right crowds to cause price problems and court issues with your purdue partner. These days..... Specially in the poultry industry.... You have to watch your back damn carefully with PETA out there.... Those sonsabitches are just plain damn parasites and will do anything dirty and low down to find dirt to back thier so called claims about cruelty in the animal/food industry.

Why not take a little pride and innitiative in your business and keep the weeds and trash cleaned up? Maybe some paint if needed. Big difference between a kept yard and area and a country club.
Side note: I always wonder what the folks that live in junk yards think when they get home to the old cars, appliances, etc in the yard.

I know how you feel. I had a couple "picky" landlords raise cain with me. I told them do you want to make money or do you want it to look nice! .....I still have one of them.
