I've heard quite a bit about Mix30 and using it to supplement beef cows that are on poor quality forage (for me, it's grass bales). These would be fall-calvers now with 30 to 60 day old calves.
I'm always looking for a way to do it easier, or cheaper. Thinking about using a Mix30 type product for pouring on hay bales before feeding to supplement the protein and energy that is lacking in the grass.
I'm guessing I can buy syrup cheaper, but what would need to be added to make an equivalent product?
Or..... should I say screw it and keep feeding protein mixed with some cheap oats that I have.
Ok guys, give me the good and the bad.

You don't need to mix it with anything. Are the bales bad and they won't eat them. Check your price on syrup and availability. Some plants don't have it. Here price from different plants is $30 to $120/ ton

Mix30 was pushed really hard around 'here' over 10 years ago. Several fed it and there were claims of it being everything from 'the miracle feed' to 'snake oil'. This IS cattle country 'here' and it's been a few years since I've even heard anyone mention it.
Syrup around these parts is mostly used in vertical mixers as part of a ration.

I'm trying to use up my grass (mature waterway) hay. Nothing wrong with it, has either stored inside or covered w/ tarp.
I haven't tested the hay, but would suspect the energy to be lacking for beef cows with hungry calves on them. Right now they are getting f/c hay plus 1/2 lb of 36% pellet and 10# of 50/50 mixed corn and oats. If I can replace the pellets and corn, I'm all for it. The oats, I bought cheap and don't mind feeding them.
Mix30 seems like hype to me, anytime somebody takes a cheap ingredient then puts a "name" on it, sounds like marketing and not substance.
Sooooo..... syrup would be an equal replacement to Mix30 without anything additional??

Just feed the hay and syrup. I usually use a lick tank. One wheel / 25 cows. Don't have a vert tmr but I'm looking. Got a lot of other stuff I can feed for grower finisher. Use a balancer for minerals. Keep it away from water supplies. One other thing its sticky and cows will come running for it.

Why the "keep it away from water supply" caution??
Checked with a supplier this morning that usually has access and found out syrup is currently unavailable from his source. This gives me a little concern about feeding it and whether or not I can get a consistent supply???
Is this supply outage normal, or just a quirk "now"??

If it's near water they will eat more than they need. Shortages usually don't last long. They add as much syrup to the ddgs as they can because its worth more . Have you ran the numbers on SBM.could be a better deal.whats syrup costing you if they had it.

Haven't run the numbers, I'm at the "looking for options" stage, but that is something I'll definitely look at.
There is a place about an hour away that has extruded beans, with the oil, that would serve the purpose of protein and energy. I used to have a local source and fed it with ground hay to ewes. Those girls would milk for twins and still gain weight on average hay.
Anything else you use??
