The safety police will probably cut my sack off for posting a picture like this on the web and chastise me up one side and down the other for even doing this little exercise in the first place. That's okay, give me hell when you read my obit, 'till then, I'll continue to take these wild-assed, crazy chances. ------------------------------ Been having quite a bit of trouble keeping the bolt tight that holds the pan on the the shaft coming out of the bottom of the center gear box on this CX20. Mother Deere has a 'kit' where a large grooved washer is welded to the pan and then a special tabbed piece that fits over the hex bolt head is inserted into the welded grooved washer (nicely engineered 'kit'). +$55 My little adaption that will do the same basic thing and can be taken off with a small cuttoff wheel -- 8" of 1/8" x 1" and about 15 minutes +/- of my time = at least $50 cheaper if my time is worth anything. Congratulations: There are people dumber than you. I have seen pictures of maxed out forklifts holding other forklifts raised to the limit which were in turn holding scaffolding with ladders atop them. Screw the safety police; if you lived through it, it's all good. If you died from it, all your problems are over.

Angus, from looking at your pictures I think I predict you're going to die someday.

A friend was working on his skid steer booms at a local shop a couple of years ago. He did not put the safety stops in, the hydraulic hose broke and he was killed instantly. I know that some of us think "that will never happen to me", but I believe safety should be paramount in all our minds at all times. I've also had two acquaintances killed by dairy bulls, the neighbors wife got rolled underneath the fence by one, and my next door neighbor (Bubba's grandpa) had to defend himself with a steel pipe against his "tame" bull. Life is too short anyway---don't make it unnecessarily shorter.
'nuff said.

We all take chances that we shouldn't take.
I have an acquaintance that could tell you of at least 3 skid steer deaths when the bucket unexpectedly dropped and lots of injuries.
My combine technician was working on a hydraulic problem on my machine one year. He had one of the hydraulic valve assemblies apart and called me over. He asked- "do you ever work under the corn head or feeder house without putting in the safety stop?" My answer-" sometimes." After I answered he showed me the POS plastic needle valve and tiny rubber o rings that were protecting my life.
Be careful out there.

I think it's safe to say that we have all taken an unnecessary chance at one point of time or another. Those sort of risks feed our desire to push the envelope in situations where efficient use of time doesn't allow for extra steps to verify extreme safe conditions. While that is one helluva sad sentence wrote.... It's also the same reason we go after this agriculture life year after year. While there are tools to help insure better safegaurds.... avoiding them and coming out good are beneficial in pocketbook figures and time efficiency.
While I never advocate taking chances with safety, I know damn good and well many of us do an I don't think a one of us is in a position to chastise about it without being a hypocrite.
Here's to the people that worry about us.

I thought at first that those pictures looked very unsafe. Then I remembered you are from missouri so you actually were being pretty darn safe. LOL
