With so much rain two months ago we had a good first cutting at about 110% of normal, now with the heat we haven't made our second cutting and normally we cut up to four times. Riding bikes through the countryside last night the smell of poultry litter is thick in the air from it just laying there on all these fields. My neighbors are already feeding hay and some are thinking of taking some of their herds to the sale barn already. Small square bales of straw were priced at $5.50 yesterday at the coop, I'm thinking we're going to run out of hay this winter.

I was in the Fayetteville area on the 2nd of July did you get that massive storm that blew thru then we were on 71 headed south and was only going 15mph the rain was coming down so hard and the wind was blowing us around pretty good I am about 100 miles east of you and our first cutting was off anywhere from 10-40% because of NO rain since last fall and second is looking real good if we would just get another rain or 2 in the next few weeks I have had guys from Ok and Tx calling me for hay and I don't have any right now a friend over west of Memphis has been loading loads headed to the Dallas area this week They sent the trks and paid for the hay in advance so he wouldn't sell to anyone else Them guys in Tx are crying for hay 4x5s anywhere from $65 to $120 pr bale for grass hay seen some cornstalks listed for $65 for a 5x5

You guys want to see poor looking alfalfa come on out west where it is cold and won't give us any warm sunny days. The hay supply in the west is going to get really serious this year because tonnage is going to way the hell off.

Pardon my ignorance by where is there small square straw selling for 5.50 a bale?
I've got a 65 acre bottom here I'm thinking about digging out the rake and small square baler tomorrow.

I'm very hesitant to sell any hay this year, I'm already being offered $45 per bale, they weigh 880 pounds and it's only July.
