John, we locked in 75% of our grain needs through 9/30, so we have 25% left to chance, and so tomorrow's load of grain is going to be costly.
I understand your dilemma too, that you can't sell something you don't have.
Who's winning in this deal?

I booked my milo a couple weeks ago after watching it go up and down hovering around the $5 mark booked at $5.18 it is $6.54 today should I have gambled and waited for it to raise or took a chance for the bottom to fall even further

We have enough land to grow all our forages. If we sell a third of our dairy cows, we don't need to buy any corn or soybeans, and we'll probably have the same bottom line.
So, guess what we'll do?

dman, why do you continue to harrass me wherever I go?
Get a life, please.
I read somewhere that you didn't like all the drama anymore.
You coulda fooled me.
I posted here today to get a feel from others where they think this is headed. Dairymen are not going to pay $9 for corn. Or $550 for SBM. Do you have anything of substance to add, or just smart-ass comments?

420 is right, it is a game of who blinks first. The sellers aren't selling, and the buyers aren't buying, at the new crop price today. So it is just a number right now.
John, got a half dozen right now but don't want to ship them in this heat. Next week looks better. We are getting pickier about who we breed back. I think this heat took out a number of dairy cows around the country this week.

Hind sight is always 20/20. As long as you are cover expenses and make a profit, you really cant kick your self in in the butt.
